Welcome back to another music post. Today I bring you the sheet music to the 1st film in the infamous 3-part silent horror series that is re-watched every Halloween, Night of the Living Sled!
I’ve always enjoyed watching these short films, this one is playing in the Coffee Shop on CPR (although without the music). The surround subtitles features is rather clever and hilarious. The introduction is similar to Frankenstein, in this case a mad scientist bringing a toboggan to life. The score consists of solo piano, which, I believe, must have been composed for this animation (right? Any information would be appreciated). This is a rough transcription and the timing isn’t perfect since the music goes in and out of free-form to match the events in the video. I labeled the subtitles at the time they appear. Here is the sheet music:
Certain performance instructions like “series of trills/arpeggios” are indicated where I was unsure how to exactly write out the notes, and also to keep the measure cleaner. Those cases just involve quickly pressing the keys in the sustained chord. Here is a video played by Noteflight:
And here is a piano tutorial version played by Synthesia, it is in black and white to match the theme:
I hope you enjoyed this post, stay tuned for part 2!
